The Opportunity

The Solana Foundation is seeking a highly driven Senior Data Engineer. The ideal candidate has an acumen for inference, making sense of complex data, and telling the correct story.

At Solana Foundation, we facilitate development across the ecosystem — the core protocol, infrastructure, and apps. Making sense of this data will have a huge impact on the effectiveness of each release and inform apps how to best serve their customers. There are enormous possibilities for Solana to facilitate multiple trillion-dollar financial industries like markets, payments, and asset management.

To Be Successful in This Role

You will:

• Pipeline Engineering: Collaborate with blockchain engineers to index blockchain data and create robust data pipelines.
• Format Parsing: Efficiently parse and index a variety of data formats, ensuring high performance and low latency.
• Knowledge Sharing: Document technical processes and solutions to ensure knowledge sharing across the team.
• Protocol Updates: Work with the Solana Improvement Document (SIMD) process to ensure updates are smooth and regression-free.
• Economic Modeling: Help gather and formulate scores for metrics like decentralization scores, transaction inclusion performance, and economics.

You ideally have:

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related roles.
• Foundational Strength: Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and efficient data processing techniques.
• Blockchain Literacy: Familiarity with blockchain technologies, including transaction data, smart contracts, and consensus mechanisms.
• Big Data Frameworks: Strong understanding in one of the following: Spark, Iceberg, Polars, or Delta-rs.
• Pipelining Proficiency: Mastery of tools like Clickhouse, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Kafka, or Pub/Sub.

Bonus Points

• Direct experience with Solana data and the broader Solana ecosystem.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Served AI use cases through deploying live agents or Model Context Protocol (MCP) to production.
• Proficiency in Rust.
