DeFi Development raises SOL holdings to 2.59 million as CHAD reaches trading records
Nasdaq-listed DeFi Development added about 22,070 SOL and SOL equivalents in a week, while its CHAD preferred stock approached its $10 par value despite a broader crypto market selloff.
Nasdaq-listed DeFi Development Corp. added approximately 22,070 SOL and SOL equivalents over the past week, lifting its total holdings to roughly 2.59 million SOL. The company said its holdings have increased 12% since its Aug. 12 earnings report, even as its shares fell sharply in recent trading.
SOL accumulation continues amid volatility
The treasury company said the latest purchases reflect its continued commitment to accumulating SOL despite near-term market weakness. CEO Joseph Onorati said short-term volatility had not changed the company’s conviction or its plans to build its Solana position.
Onorati also pointed to wider activity involving tokenized equities and stablecoins on Solana. He specifically cited Samsung’s announcement that it plans to bring stablecoin functionality to 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices, arguing that such developments could expand Solana’s role in global finance.
Key figures from the update include:
- 2.59 million SOL and SOL equivalents held by DeFi Development.
- Approximately 22,070 SOL added during the past week.
- A 12% increase in holdings since the Aug. 12 earnings report.
- Approximately 21% weekly decline in DFDV shares, including a 2.2% drop in Monday’s session.
CHAD separates from SOL’s price performance
The company’s Nasdaq-listed variable-rate perpetual preferred stock, CHAD, reached record trading highs during the week ended Oct. 9, even as the broader crypto market sold off. CHAD currently carries a 13% annual dividend rate, payable when declared.
DeFi Development said it recently authorized a program to repurchase up to all outstanding CHAD shares. The authorization gives the company flexibility to buy the securities if they trade below their $10 par value.
Chief Strategy Officer Dan Kang said CHAD’s move toward $10 while SOL pulled back suggested investors were recognizing the security’s income characteristics. He added that the preferred stock was designed to meet demand for income supported by the company’s SOL treasury, and that its trading behavior can differ from the underlying token.
What This Means
DeFi Development’s update highlights two distinct investor exposures tied to its Solana strategy. The company’s common shares remain sensitive to expectations for treasury growth and SOL performance, while CHAD is being positioned as an income-oriented preferred security with a stated dividend rate.
The divergence between declining DFDV shares, weaker SOL conditions and CHAD’s record trading levels may indicate that investors are evaluating the securities on different terms. However, the dividend is payable only when declared, and CHAD’s market performance does not eliminate the risks associated with crypto-linked corporate treasuries. Continued SOL accumulation could reinforce DeFi Development’s role as a public-market vehicle for Solana exposure, while future results will depend on token prices, trading conditions and the company’s ability to compound its holdings.
