Solana ETF Inflows Challenge the Bearish Signal From a 74% Drawdown
Despite a 74% drawdown from its all-time high and nine consecutive red months, Solana ETF inflows suggest institutional interest may be decoupling from price action.
Solana traded at $77.54 on Thursday, down 0.41% on the day, as the broader crypto market remained subdued. The asset ranks seventh by market cap at $45.19 billion, a drop from its previous top-five standing. Price has been compressed near a moving-average cluster around $76.80, with the 14-day RSI at a neutral 52.83, signaling indecision.
The 74% Drawdown and Nine Red Months
SOL peaked at $294.33 on January 19, 2025, and has since printed nine consecutive red months. The token entered July near $67 before rallying 15% to test $80, only to be rejected—a pattern repeated since February. This collapse mirrors a broader market downturn: Bitcoin fell to ~$62,500 by late June, and higher-beta assets like SOL suffered disproportionately. Solana's beta makes it the cleanest expression of crypto risk appetite—outperforming when liquidity returns, underperforming when it leaves.
ETF Inflows Tell a Different Story
While price data looks bearish, flow data is increasingly bullish. Solana ETF inflows have been robust, challenging the narrative of a permanent decline. Institutional products are absorbing supply, even as retail sentiment remains in fear territory (Fear & Greed at 33). The divergence between on-chain flows and price action suggests that long-term holders and institutions are accumulating at these levels.
What This Means
The disconnect between price and ETF inflows is a classic bottoming signal. If institutional accumulation continues, SOL could be setting up for a mean reversion rally. However, macro headwinds (rising Treasury yields, geopolitical tensions) and the 74% drawdown mean traders should watch for a break above $80 as confirmation of a trend change.
