Grayscale Expands In-Kind Subscriptions to 10 Crypto ETFs and Trusts
Grayscale is allowing eligible investors to contribute digital assets directly in exchange for shares across 10 investment products, including its Solana fund, with minimums ranging from about $80,300 to $364,800.
Grayscale has expanded in-kind subscriptions to 10 digital asset investment products, allowing eligible investors to exchange tokens directly for shares without first selling their holdings for cash. The lineup includes products tied to Solana, Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and other major digital assets.
A Broader In-Kind Offering
The investment manager said the expanded program is designed to connect direct crypto ownership with traditional portfolio management. Eligible investors can contribute tokens directly to participating products, subject to each product’s terms and intermediary requirements.
The products available for in-kind subscriptions include:
- Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF
- Ethereum Staking Mini ETF
- Funds or trusts tied to Avalanche, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Solana, Sui, XRP and Zcash
Minimum investments range from approximately $80,300 to $364,800, depending on the product. The high minimums indicate that the offering is aimed primarily at eligible, sophisticated or institutional investors rather than the average retail account holder.
Why Solana Investors May Pay Attention
Grayscale’s inclusion of a Solana product places SOL directly within an investment structure that can be accessed through traditional brokerage and retirement accounts. Investors may also be able to use these products in collateral and broader portfolio-management strategies, according to the firm.
The in-kind structure can reduce the need for investors to sell tokens for cash before purchasing fund shares. Grayscale said this may help lower transaction costs and reduce the operational burden associated with self-custody. The company also pointed to cybersecurity concerns, including risks related to self-custody and decentralized finance exploits, as a reason institutional custody is becoming more valuable.
For SOL holders, the model could offer an alternative path into professionally managed exposure. Instead of transferring cash into an investment product, eligible participants can contribute the underlying digital asset directly, potentially simplifying the transition between native token ownership and regulated investment vehicles.
Regulatory Foundation
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange-traded products in July 2025. Those approvals applied to authorized participants, while Grayscale’s announcement extends the practical use of in-kind contributions to eligible investors under product-specific and intermediary rules.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said at the time that the approvals could make crypto investment products less costly and more efficient. Grayscale’s expanded offering represents an implementation of that framework across a wider range of digital assets.
What This Means
The move is a positive institutional development for Solana and the broader crypto market. By supporting direct token contributions across multiple products, Grayscale may make it easier for larger holders to shift from self-custody into traditional investment structures without an intermediate cash sale. The minimum investment requirements and eligibility conditions limit immediate retail access, but the expansion signals growing integration between native crypto ownership, regulated funds and professional custody.
