Akash Announces Migration to Solana to Power the Next Generation of AI Infrastructure
Akash will move its underlying blockchain infrastructure to Solana over the next 24 months, bringing decentralized compute marketplaces and AI inference services into the Solana ecosystem.

Akash is moving its decentralized compute network to Solana after its community approved the transition, linking an established distributed computing marketplace with Solana’s growing infrastructure and application ecosystem. The migration is planned to unfold over the next 24 months as demand for AI computing capacity continues to increase.
Akash’s Solana Migration
Akash said the decision followed an extensive review of potential growth paths. The project identified Solana’s low transaction costs, established decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) ecosystem, liquidity and large onchain user base as key reasons for selecting the network.
The move was formally approved through Governance Proposal 346, which received support from 97% of participating token holders. Technical planning and coordination between the Akash and Solana teams are already underway, although the announcement did not provide a detailed schedule for individual migration milestones.
Once the transition is complete, Akash’s core products are expected to become available natively on Solana, including:
- Akash Marketplace, which aggregates distributed compute supply through a globally accessible marketplace.
- AkashML, the project’s high-performance AI inference platform.
- Akash Homenode, which enables users to contribute computing power to the Akash Network.
Compute, AI and Solana’s Ecosystem
Akash described the migration as a way to expand access to decentralized compute while integrating with tools and capabilities already available across Solana. The company pointed to Solana’s activity across internet capital markets, payments, AI agents and crypto applications as potential foundations for its next phase of growth.
The announcement also positions the move as a convergence between two infrastructure-oriented ecosystems. Akash brings a global marketplace for distributed computing, while Solana offers an established blockchain environment with a reported more than 50 million active users and a large developer community.
The practical impact will depend on the implementation of the migration, including how Akash’s existing services, users and providers are connected to Solana-based infrastructure. The announcement did not state that the compute marketplace is already fully live on Solana; instead, it described an ongoing transition with technical work beginning now.
What This Means
For Solana, Akash’s migration could broaden the network’s role in decentralized infrastructure beyond financial applications and provide another prominent DePIN project with access to its users, liquidity and developer tools. It also creates a potential pathway for AI compute services and Solana-based applications to interact more closely.
Existing AKT holders will be able to migrate their tokens to SPL AKT on a 1:1 basis through a dedicated portal. Akash said future updates, including milestones and user guidance, will be published through its official channels. Until those details arrive, the announcement represents a strategic infrastructure commitment and roadmap change rather than a completed launch.
