Backpack Launches Tokenized Brazil ETF on Solana as Markets Rally
Backpack Securities has launched a Solana-based tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF, giving crypto-native investors access to Brazilian equities through a 1:1 redeemable onchain asset.

Backpack Securities has launched a tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ) on Solana through Sunrise, bringing exposure to Brazilian equities onto crypto rails as markets react to Brazil’s first-round presidential election result.
Tokenized EWZ Comes to Solana
The Solana-based token is designed to represent shares of the traditional ETF and can be redeemed 1:1 for corresponding EWZ shares through Backpack Securities. The structure allows investors to access a familiar exchange-traded product through a blockchain-based format while retaining a redemption path to the underlying security entitlement.
Backpack launched its securities platform earlier this year in partnership with Sunrise, which serves as the tokenization partner. Together, the companies convert traditional securities into Solana-based tokens that can later be redeemed for the corresponding assets.
The launch gives crypto-native investors access to one of the main vehicles for trading Brazilian equities without limiting the product to traditional market infrastructure. It also places a tokenized ETF directly within Solana’s growing ecosystem of onchain financial applications.
Brazil Rally Drives Timing
The product debuted as Brazilian markets posted sharp gains following a surprise result in the country’s first-round presidential vote. EWZ rose roughly 13% on Monday, while Brazil’s benchmark Bovespa index gained more than 8%.
The Brazilian real also strengthened by more than 4%, as investors increased their expectations for a more market-friendly fiscal agenda. The rally provides an immediate market backdrop for the tokenized ETF, although the onchain product’s longer-term relevance depends on liquidity, distribution and continued demand for tokenized securities.
Key market moves included:
- EWZ: up roughly 13%.
- Bovespa: up more than 8%.
- Brazilian real: strengthened more than 4%.
Tokenized Equities Expand
The launch arrives as tokenized public markets continue to grow. DefiLlama reported in August that the market capitalization of tokenized equities had increased ninefold over the previous year to more than $3.7 billion.
Its latest dashboard tracks approximately $2.7 billion in onchain public equities, with about $196 million actively deployed across DeFi. Those figures point to a widening market for blockchain-based representations of stocks and ETFs, even as the sector remains smaller than traditional equity markets.
What This Means
Backpack’s tokenized EWZ launch connects Solana’s settlement and distribution infrastructure with a major traditional equity exposure. The 1:1 redemption mechanism may help address investor concerns around asset backing, while the timing highlights how tokenized products can respond to live market demand.
If adoption continues, products like tokenized EWZ could broaden access to international markets and create additional building blocks for onchain trading and DeFi. For Solana, the launch is another example of institutional-grade assets moving onto its network, though liquidity and regulatory execution will remain central to whether tokenized ETFs become a durable market category.
