Grass

Grass is a DePIN network that pays people for internet bandwidth they aren't using. Contributors run a lightweight Grass node, available as a browser extension, desktop app for Windows, macOS and Ubuntu, or Android app, and the network routes requests for public web data through those idle residential connections. Developed by Wynd Labs and launched in 2023, Grass now spans millions of opted-in residential connections and supplies training data to many of the world's leading AI labs, reaching parts of the web that conventional data-center crawlers can't.

Privacy is built into how the node works: Grass only uses spare bandwidth, traffic is outbound-only, and the app never touches a user's files or browsing history. Sharing can be paused at any time, and the app is certified by AppEsteem. Contributors earn Network Points and Uptime Points for the bandwidth and availability they provide, which determine their share of periodic GRASS token distributions.

The first airdrop, on October 28, 2024, distributed 100 million GRASS to around 2.8 million eligible users, with nearly 1.5 million Solana addresses claiming, making it the most widely distributed airdrop on Solana at the time. A second rewards stage covered network activity from October 2024 through June 2026.

GRASS is a Solana token with a fixed supply of one billion. It is used to pay for access to the network's data services, to stake to the network's routers for a share of bandwidth rewards, and for governance. The built-in Grass wallet, a passkey-secured Solana wallet created with every account, lets users deposit by card or crypto, swap tokens without holding SOL for gas, and stake GRASS from a minimum of one token with a 7-day unstaking period.

Grass's long-term goal is to give AI a live connection to the world's information. Beyond training datasets, the team is building a Contents API for programmatic access to web pages, a Search API for web discovery, and multimodal data retrieval.
