Web3 identity for everyone: human-readable names for Solana wallets.
SNS (Solana Name Service) is the naming and identity layer of Solana. It replaces 44-character wallet addresses with human-readable names, so users can send funds to a name instead of copying an address, show a profile with a name and avatar, and carry one identity across apps. Its mission is to "humanise the on-chain experience," and the team's stated goal is for every Solana wallet to have a domain name by default.
The service began under Bonfida, one of Solana's earliest projects, and rebranded to SNS in 2024. More than 453,000 domains have been registered, and SNS names are supported by over 160 partners, including Phantom, Solflare, Backpack and Jupiter. Names are bought once with no renewal fees and can be held, traded or transferred like any other asset. SNS runs its own marketplace for domains, including premium categories such as emoji, short and numeric names.
In August 2026 the name layer split in two. The .sol extension moved to the Solana Foundation's new Solana Record Service (SRS), with plans for official top-level domain status, while SNS now registers and manages .sns names. Everyone who held a .sol domain at the August 17, 2026 snapshot kept that name as yourname.sns and received a matching yourname.sol from SRS for free. The SNS program stopped resolving .sol names at slot 452,825,395, and SRS-backed .sol resolution is rolling out across wallets and apps through Q4 2026 and Q1 2027.
SNS keeps building on top of names: Sol.site turns a domain into a live website, SNS for Agents lets AI agents manage domains, and Solana Seeker owners can claim a free .sns domain. The $SNS token launched on May 13, 2025, replacing Bonfida's FIDA, with a 10 billion supply of which 40% went to an airdrop for domain holders and Solana communities. $SNS can be used to register domains at a 5% discount.
