The NFT standard and tooling layer underpinning most Solana digital assets.
Metaplex is the protocol and developer toolkit behind most NFTs and many tokens on Solana. Its Token Metadata program defines how names, images and attributes are attached to Solana tokens, and it underpins the large majority of Solana NFT collections. Its newer Core standard offers a lighter, cheaper single-account NFT design with built-in plugins for royalties, freezing and more.
Around these standards, Metaplex provides tools for creators and builders: Candy Machine for minting collections, Bubblegum for compressed NFTs that can be minted in the millions for a fraction of the usual cost, and Genesis, a token launchpad. Genesis contributed $422K in fees in August 2026, up 240% month on month, as launches such as CARDS and PORTALS went live on it.
The protocol earns a small fee on mints and other actions, and 50% of protocol revenue funds monthly MPLX buybacks by the Metaplex DAO. Revenue reached $2.5M in August 2026, its highest since February 2025, with about 80% coming from Token Metadata. By mid-2026 the DAO held around a third of MPLX's total supply. In August 2026 Metaplex also launched a public dashboard, hosted by Blockworks, that tracks its revenue, token supply and buyback activity on-chain.
