Phantom

Phantom is the most widely used self-custodial wallet on Solana. Founded in January 2021 by Brandon Millman (CEO), Francesco Agosti (CTO) and Chris Kalani (CPO), it launched as a browser extension, passed 3 million users within six months, and has since grown into a multichain wallet on desktop and mobile used by roughly 15 million monthly active users as of early 2025.

The wallet goes well beyond holding SOL and SPL tokens. In-app swaps were among its first features, launched in June 2021 and passing $1B in volume by that October. Users can stake SOL, view and manage NFTs, set usernames and profiles, and trade perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid without leaving the app. Built-in transaction simulation and scam warnings flag malicious approvals before a user signs.

Phantom started Solana-only and has steadily added networks, including Ethereum, Polygon and Bitcoin. In 2026 it added Robinhood Chain (July) and native BNB Chain support (October 1), letting users hold, send and swap BNB Chain tokens alongside their Solana assets without a separate EVM wallet.

The company has raised from a16z, Paradigm, Sequoia Capital and Variant, among others. Its $150M Series C in January 2025, co-led by Sequoia and Paradigm, valued Phantom at $3B.
